Nature Notes

Green Again

Now that the time has finally arrived to put the hot-water bottle away and leave the thick outer garments at home, we can get out and about in the garden or take a long walk in the countryside to see Nature producing new growth and food for birds beasts and insects. Birch trees are producing catkins, blackthorn shrubs are coming into flower, albeit a few weeks late, and bluebells are flowering in some areas near where I live. Late April, and early May is my favourite time and if one is feeling a bit depressed then the sound of birdsong is better than any antidepressant that a doctor might prescribe, and with only good side-effects! This Wood Pigeon seems to be enjoying the warmer weather and the luxury of fresh water to enjoy.
