Nature Notes

Brown and Golden

With a final flourish of Summer the temperature reached 23 deg C. here in Norfolk yesterday, and the prolonged sunshine made it feel like July. But by 7pm the sun had set and darkness rapidly followed. Today things are completely different with overcast skies, cooler temperatures, and a forecast of rain. But birds and insects still fly around my garden taking advantage of the water and food on offer.

In the damp overgrown part of the Rosary Cemetery in Norwich, brambles are producing fruits that will make a comforting blackberry-pie as part of Sunday's dinner.
