Rain and a Blackbird

Rain and a Blackbird

The week so far has been extremely gloomy as regards the weather. Cool, cloudy and rainy. Today has been the most depressing, with a largely overcast sky and a more organised period of rain that set in from about 11am onwards. The wind was strong and gusty causing my lovely tulips to suffer serious damage; petals ripped off once proud colourful flowers, and intact ones had their graceful pastel coloured forms drooping under the weigh of water that had collected in their cup-shaped forms. Only unopened tulips have been unaffected by the rain and wind. This evening as a particularly heavy shower arrived and a rumble of distant thunder was heard, a blackbird sang sweetly in a nearby tree and ignored the miserable end to his day with it's grey wet drabness, and celebrated his presence there for all around to witness on such a miserable evening.
