SUNFLOWER (Helianthus annus)

The sunflower is a very distinct and quite dramatic plant; not just on account of its large proportions, but also because many garden flowers have nearly finished by the time it produces its very large blooms, and it is therefore very noticeable in late summer. I used a small aperture on the lens to maximise depth of field for this close up image of the central spirals of the flower head.
