SPECKLED WOOD BUTTERFLY (Parage aegeria)

This common butterfly is somewhat unusual in that it prefers the more sheltered conditions of woodland, and also it can be seen on the wing in overcast weather conditions, whereas most butterflies prefer a sunny situation in which to fly. The species likes, as all butterflies do, to feed on honeydew, but will also feed on nectar from plants such as ragwort. It can be seen quite late in the year; maybe even into October.
