A Wet and Unsettled Week
23/02/10As I look at my weather observations for the 3rd. week of February the thing that stands out compared to the previous week is the amount of precipitation, either in the form of rain or as snow. I usually measure snow in the form of melted rain unless it is sufficiently deep enough to measure the depth with a ruler. So last week saw a total of 29.6mm. (1.2") of precipitation, compared to a total of 5.4mm. (0.2") the previous week. The wettest day was Tuesday 16th., when 7.6mm. (0.3") was measured. Only one day (Tuesday) was free of rain, sleet or snow last week. It was also very cold at night with only one night having a minimum temperature above zero, the lowest being being the 20th. at minus 1.7 C. Average daylight temperatures were slightly up on the previous week with the highest being 5.3 C. on the 20th. At the beginning of March I will summarise the weather conditions for the February in more detail for the "anoraks" amongst us!
