Weather Notes

Driest Period of Weather in E England For 90 Years

The most noticeable feature of February's weather was the lack of rainfall. The normal amount of rain for the month is 40mm, but I recorded only 6.0mm in total, which meant that rainfall was only 15% of the monthly average for February. In fact parts of E England have now had the longest dry period for 90 years. Temperatures for February were also of interest in that the range between the lowest and highest values throughout he month was 29 deg C. On the 11th the lowest night temperature was -9.8 deg C and on the 23rd of the month the highest was 18.9 deg C. The first 12 days of the month experienced negative temperatures and on the 5th the daytime temperature did not rise above 0.7 deg C.
