March 2013 the Wettest for 50 Years
03/04/13March 2013 was a bitterly cold month, especially the 2nd and 4th weeks. Heavy snow showers accompanied by strong winds occurred on the 9th - 11th after fog lasted all day on the 8th. The warmest day of the month was the 5th when 13.5C was recorded, and the first week of the month was the warmest of the 4 overall. Most of the month's rain fell during the 2nd and 3rd week either as rain or snow, the wettest day being the 9th with 18.3mm followed by the 17th with 11.7mm. March 2013 was the coldest for 50 years due to a persistent easterly airflow and a dominant high pressure area centred to the north of the UK. The overall average temperature was 3C less than the 1981-2010 mean for March in the area where my weather station is situated.
